Federal Criminal Record Searches:  The vast majority of criminal activity falls under state penal codes and is prosecuted at the county level. The state/county search is the type included in the standard ESS criminal package. You may wish to add a Federal Criminal Records Search to your package for a more complete background check.

Most federal, state and local laws regulate the questions you may ask. It is very important as employers and HR representatives that you avoid legal trouble by asking the proper questions. In many cases, you may be able to obtain the information you need by asking the question in another way. 
A Quick Review of the FCRA: It has been three years since the amendments to Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act took effect on October 1, 1997.  Many of you who request and/or use ESS Reports to help with employment decisions may have started your current position since that time.  We realize transitioning into a new position is a hectic time, and it is possible the FCRA guidelines, forms, and information did not get into your hands.

As technology continues to evolve, Employment Screening Services, Inc. has also tried to make sure that we have the latest technology to help our clients. When ESS was first conceived, all our reports were simply mailed to our clients. But then came the fax machine which sped up the process considerably. The fax is a fantastic tool but has many security problems. Now we have e-mail. 
ESS Website Information: We receive many questions regarding turnaround times, additional court fees, and our services. We know that it is important for you to keep up with these changes so we update our website regularly to help you with these questions.
Address Change: In October of 1999 we moved our offices in order to accommodate our larger staff. Although we have sent out many notices since that time, we are still receiving mail addressed to our old building.
