| Disaster Recovery | ||||
|
In today’s world it is very important for companies to make contingency plans in the event of an unforeseen disaster. Anything from terrorist attacks, fire, floods, electrical outages, etc. can take a company out of business. At Employment Screening Services, we understand the importance of maintaining on going operations. We realize that if we are unable to function for more than a day, it will delay your hiring process and that of our other 5000 clients across the country. For this reason, we have now invested in a complete Disaster Recovery Program. The ESS Disaster Recovery
Program will allow us to be up and running within an hour’s notice of any
disaster that may arise. All our data is backed up by direct connect to a
computer system 20 miles from our corporate office. This allows us to have
all data at our fingertips in the event of a disaster. In addition, we have
a complete suite of offices set-up with computers, phones, and faxes for our
staff to utilize immediately. Of course, we hope we never have a need for
this process, but if we do, rest assured we’ve already taken the necessary
steps to insure there is minimal disruption to the completion of your
reports. |

| Diploma Mills | ||||
|
If you are like most people involved in the hiring process you have no doubt heard of Diploma Mills. And you’ve probably wondered how they operate. At ESS, we verify thousands of degrees every month and we certainly run across them frequently. Many applicants will simply claim to have the degree you list as a requirement for the job; even though they don't really have one or they never completed it or they create a diploma using their computer. But the trickiest situations involve applicants who have utilized the services of one of the many Diploma Mills. You have probably received an e-mail from one of the mills promising you a college degree. This is a very common form of SPAM. But have you ever checked one out to see what they are really selling? After receiving several of these e-mails in one day, I decided to follow up and see just what was involved. The e-mail I chose to use had a link directly to their web site. I clicked on it and found they claimed to be a part of a prominent university. They did, however, make sure to say they were not accredited but that most people would never know. There was a short form to fill out where you list your actual education and work experience. They said they would review that information to see if you qualify for the degree you wanted. (Yes, they actually asked what type of degree you would like.) Upon completing the form and submitting it, I instantly received an e-mail telling me that someone would be contacting me soon to go over the information. It took less than an hour to hear from them. The person verified the information I had provided them, made sure again I knew they were not accredited, and told me I absolutely qualified for the degree. I was amazed. My question, of course, was how much would it cost? "If you will give us your credit card information, we will charge you only $4,700 and you will have your diploma in 48 hours." That's it! For only 4,700 bucks I could have a Masters in Business Administration in two days. I asked how many of these they sold. "We sell about 100 of these a day." I told him I had to think about it and hung up in total amazement. It was a remarkably simple, albeit expensive procedure. Anyone willing to part with some cash could obtain a college degree in record time! So, what can you do to make sure you don’t fall prey to one of these companies and hire someone with a fake degree? Don't take the applicant’s word for it and don't assume that any diploma they show you is real. Let us verify the degree for you. Over the years we have assembled a list of known diploma mills so we can usually spot a phony degree right away. Let us help you avoid being duped by one of these nefarious Diploma MillsBack To Top |

| Report Cancellation Policy | ||||
|
As time goes on, we are increasingly automating our proprietary Order Processing System and therefore its efficiency. Where it used to take an hour or so to order a SSN Trace, Credit Report or Motor Vehicle report after receiving your faxed documents, it now takes just a few minutes. And if you are using our Internet Report Ordering System, it is done instantly. With this in mind, we thought we would remind you of our cancellation policy. Upon receiving your report request, we begin ordering the initial data necessary to conduct the background investigation. SSN, Credit, and Motor Vehicle information fall into this category. Once we do this, we have incurred a cost that is not refundable to us. Items such as Employment Verifications, Education Verifications, Reference Checks, etc., take a little longer to initiate. So when you call to cancel a report, please keep in mind we must charge you for any items we have begun processing. Anything we have not processed, we are happy to stop and end any more expenses to you. Therefore, it is very important for you to cancel a report as soon as possible after it has been sent to our office. Thank you for your
understanding on this policy. |

| Importance of Letting Us Know ... | ||||

Change is a part of every
business. If you move your office, change your phone number, add or delete
an authorized user for your account, change an authorized user for the IRAS
program, or if you change the personnel in your office who interface with us
at Employment Screening Services, please inform us as soon as possible.
Also, invoices are mailed to people based on the contact information we have. If
we are not notified, there can be a delay in our invoices reaching the
proper person, which can lead to delayed payments, which can ultimately lead
to report delays. So, if there are any changes you think we should know
about, please send us a quick e-mail or call us now so we can record those
changes. Thank you! |

| SSN Changes On Your Reports | ||||

Identity Theft has become a very real and very serious
problem over the past few years.
ESS is committed to making sure we do everything we
can to protect the identity and personal information of all applicants we
screen. In an effort to make it harder for anyone to use our reports or
other information for illicit purposes, we have now blocked all but the last
4 digits of the Social Security Numbers that go out on our reports. We hope
this will not cause any problems for anyone and that you will understand the
importance of this for your applicants’ security. Back To Top |

| Summary of Consumer Rights Now Updated | ||||
|
The recently enacted Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (Fact Act) required the Federal Trade Commission to update the “Summary of Consumer Rights Under the Fair Credit Report Act.” The Summary of Rights is the document that must accompany a copy of the consumer report when it is given to an employee/applicant prior to a possible adverse action based on a consumer report. For a reminder of employer obligations under the FCRA, visit our client services website at www.essclientservices.com. Congress amended the Summary of Rights to make it more useful to consumers. It includes updated information on pertinent federal agencies and it removes outdated information. The new Summary also includes a section about Identity Theft and a web site address for more information. Click here to download a copy of the amended Summary of Consumer Rights. It will also be available on our client services web site. The majority of the FACT Act deals with the use of credit reports for financial transactions. It gives consumers more ways to protect themselves against identity theft and to make sure their credit information is accurate. To learn more about the Act, go to http://www.ftc.gov/credit/. This site has a link to AnnualCreditReport.com, where you can learn how to get a free copy of your credit report once a year. (For some areas of the country, this will not be available until September 2005.) The FACT Act also requires
that consumer-reporting agencies, like ESS, make available to consumers upon
request, a “Summary of Identity Theft Rights.” If you are interested, this
document is also available by

have any questions. |
